TV Pilot: In The Band (Part III) - Chemistry

In April 2006, Gov’t Mule debuted several new songs at a secret show at Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Several of those songs appeared later that year on the band’s eleventh release High & Mighty. By the time the band was filmed in Chicago, one of the album’s tracks “Brand New Angel” had been road tested all summer long. Part III of the pilot begins with the chunky, guitar riff of “Brand New Angel.” After a verse and a chorus, organist, Danny Louis, talks about the art of the solo and simply, “…not thinking.” Quickly we return to the stage for Warren Haynes’s solo. After, Matt Abts talks about “The Zone” and reiterates Danny’s sentiments about forgetting what’s going on around you. When Warren Haynes is asked the same question he tells viewers about “Windows.” Ultimately, he says, as a musicians you strive for it from song-to-song or maybe from night-to-night but if you catch them a handful of times, “…you’re doing just fine.”
