TV Pilot: In The Band (Part I) - Load-In

The impetus for InTheBand.tv began December 16th, 2006, when I set up out to create a television pilot for cable. The pitch was to create a music-oriented, reality program that showcases the insider’s perspective on how music, band members, audience and location interact. Prior to December, I had spent almost 8-months trying to find the perfect band for the show. Not to mention soliciting and negotiating with bands over the right terms. Earlier that year, former Wetlands Preserve owner, Peter Shapiro, and I produced Gov’t Mule’s music video “Million Miles From Yesterday.” The video was a visual journey through the band’s history. Being that I had countless gigabytes of Mulestory dating back to their inception, it made perfect sense to cast the band for the pilot.
Segment 1: “Load-in” introduces viewers to Gov’t Mule. Host, Callie Stydahar, travels to Chicago’s Riviera Theater where Gov’t Mule’s road crew has arrived early to set-up for the night’s gig. The package features footage of the band’s load-in and interviews with Matt Abts (drums), Danny Louis (keys) and Warren Haynes (guitar/vocals). Throughout, viewers are treated to a stunning, multi-cam performance shoot of “Mr. High and Mighty.” Musical themes are explored and referenced through non-linear story lines organically telling compelling stories in a reality format.
