It’s been about two years since I’ve worked with Blues Traveler. In 2003, jamband guru, Dean Budnick, and I traveled to Danbury, Connecticut to videotape an interview with the band. At the time, the focus of the interview centered around fabled New York City venue Wetlands Preserve and the interview now appears throughout the documentary Wetlands Preserved: The Story of an Activist Nightclub. So, today was really nice as the band traveled to me to sit down in my studio and talk about their latest release ¡Bastardos!. John Popper talks about recording in Austin, Texas with former Wilco band member, Jay Bennett, who served as the album’s producer. The video clip starts on a humorous note, however, as Popper details the old adage about the calf and bull. “Diddling” ensues…
Be sure to watch Part II for the band’s performance of “Amber Awaits.”
